How to Care for Linen Clothing

Why Linen Needs Special Care
Linen is one of the most breathable, durable, and eco-friendly fabrics in the world — but it does require a little extra attention to keep it looking its best. Whether you've just discovered your love for linen or you're a long-time fan, these care tips will help your pieces last for years.
Washing Linen
- Machine wash on a gentle cycle using cold or lukewarm water (30°C max).
- Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent — avoid bleach, which weakens linen fibers.
- Turn garments inside out to protect the outer surface and reduce pilling.
- Wash linen separately from rough fabrics like denim to avoid abrasion.
Drying Linen
- Air drying is best. Lay flat or hang on a line away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
- If using a dryer, choose a low-heat setting and remove while still slightly damp.
- Avoid over-drying — linen becomes brittle when completely dried by machine heat.
Ironing & Steaming
- Iron linen while it's still slightly damp for the smoothest results.
- Use a medium-to-high heat setting and iron on the reverse side.
- A handheld steamer works beautifully for a relaxed, boho look without the effort of ironing.
Storing Linen
- Store in a cool, dry place with good air circulation.
- Avoid plastic bags — linen needs to breathe. Use cotton garment bags instead.
- Fold loosely or hang to prevent permanent creases.
